Aluinn Birch Woods

birchie3~0.jpg

On Sunday, April 20, 2008, Aluinn Birch Woods suffered a serious injury to his back right leg. In what can only be called a freak accident, he became entangled in a "hot" electrabrade fence. His efforts to free himself resulted in what I have learned is a "de-gloving," whereby the skin was stripped from his cannon bone. Dr. McCashin and Cindy Hudson of Carolina Equine were able to attend to Birch immediately. At this writing, after almost a month of constant care at Dr. McCashin's, it is looking like Birch may well have a future -- probably not as an eventer or driving pony, but as a treasured family friend and a herd sire as he was originally intended. As a patient, he has been exemplary. His attitude and adaptability are beyond compare. We feel very fortunate.

"Caraway Pippa"

red_horse_red_tree.jpg

Caraway Pippa is a 2003 bay mare by Irish Park Caraway Finn (Hideaway's Sebastian) out of *Kindesella Contessa (Golden Star). She is a 14.2-1/4 hand bay mare, as measured by our vet in preparation of inspection in October. She is sweet, loving and would do anything for a treat. Pippa ranks toward the middle of the herd. She looks after and shares hay with her young buddies. Pippa is physically talented -- likes to jump and works nicely in a frame. We intended to event her this spring, but have determined that the pressure of training makes her nervous. For the time being, Pippa is serving as my old lady mount and will soon take a turn at being Barry's husband horse. Sales price is negotiable.

"Indian Summer's Keelin"

best_kee.jpg

Keelin is a 2004 dun mare by An Tostal winner Kerrymor Madison (Lynfields Kiltuck) out of Beacon's Piper (Balmullo's Beacon). Kee was measured at 14.2 - 1/4 on August 19, by my vet, in anticipation of inspections in October. She is a beautiful mare with talent and a work ethic. She loves her job and is proving very good at both jumping and dressage. Her second dressage test earned the judge's comment "A super (underlined) talented, energetic, horse."
Price is by "private treaty."

Indian Summer Jes

jes_and_bill.jpg

Jes is a 2005 filly by *Hohnhorst Branni out of Aladdin's Midnight Jaz. She is a full sibling to Aluinn Bowdoin, our driving pony, and Aluinn Birch, our weanling stallion prospect. All three ponies incorporate the quintessential Connemara attributes of balanced conformation, pleasing personality, quiet disposition and brains.
Everyone that meets Jes loves her. She's been "assisting" the vet, farrier, dentist, fencing contractor, and barn builders for years. She's been known to hand tools to a worker on an electric lift. Needless to say, Jes is not a spook! She is expected to stay pony -- probably 14h or so. Jes was started under saddle in January, 2008. On June 9, 2008, she started with Bill Long to learn to drive. He thinks she has what it takes to be a CDE competitor!

Indian Summer Darby

darbs4.jpg

Darby is a 2005 gelding by Ballywhim An Luan out of Conneleigh Carys McMor (Greystone Dallen McMor). He seal brown and should turn fully grey in the next few years. Darbs is cute, smart and proportionately balanced. He has big soft eyes and a loving manner. He plays hard with his buddies, but likes a good cuddle, too. Darbs has been started under saddle and is progressing nicely. He is naturally quiet.
Darby moves like a hunter pony, long and low. We expect he might find his place in the show ring. (See more pictures of Darby under "Our Foals" in the gallery.)

Thor (1/4 clydesdale)

Thor_canter_2.jpg

Thor was born on May 18, 2004. He is one quarter clydesdale, one half quarterhorse and one quarter thoroughbred. His sire, PS Sign the Card (see him on the web) has done good things in the quarterhorse show hunter world. Thor seems to have acquired an abundance of clydesdale genes. He is a bay roan, with distinctive clydesdale markings. Thor was bred to keep, but it appears he will be much too large for even Barry. He is sadly for sale. We hope to find him a person of his own to appreciate his many assets. Thor measured 16.2h on December 27, 2007.
